The Salem Kiwanis Club has been serving the greater Salem Oregon community since 1921. Members participate in a variety of local community service projects to benefit children and adults in the area served by the club.

Salem Kiwanis donates many books to Head Start Schools in Salem

Salem Kiwanis sponsors an annual spelling bee for elementary, middle and high school students. In conjunction with the Salem Keizer Education Foundation,  cash awards and certificates are given to the winners.


The Salem Kiwanis Club has an ongoing project to donate children's books to local elementary and preschools. Committee co-chair Hugh Nelson "sits down" with some of the kids at a recent book delivery. 
In 2013-2014, Kiwanis members collected, sorted, and distributed books to
8,916 elementary, pre-school and Head Start children in 95 local schools
for a total of 43,366 free books.
